About Fourth Corner Quilts

Fourth Corner Quilts is a full service quilt shop offering classes, retail sales of quilt fabrics, patterns, books, notions and gifts.  We also do commissioned quilts, repairs and other quilt services. Our fabulous custom classroom includes a full kitchen, combination of full spectrum and natural light, high cutting and ironing counters and designs walls throughout.  There is enough room for 12-15 students to have their own table or to have two classes running simultaneously. 

When classes are not in session, the classroom is available for quilters to use at no charge.  Please call ahead to let us know you're coming.  Consider creating your own retreat with friends!  If there is a particular quilt instructor, technique or class you would like us to offer please let us know!

About Julia -- A love for quilting inspired Julia Menkee to open Fourth Corner Quilts in September of 2003.  Julia found an old warehouse and saw the potential for a large custom quilting classroom and retail quilt shop.  She talked her brother Gary into helping her remodel it.  In late July they embarked on this ambitious plan and 35 days later, the transformed space was the birthplace of Fourth Corner Quilts.  Julia has a B.S. in Home & Family Life Education, taught for 6 years and worked as a project manager for an educational database firm for 6 years before venturing into the world of quilt shop ownership.  She made her first quilt when she was 13 years old.

Julia's partner, Edward Halasz, works during the day as an Environmental Health Specialist with the Whatcom County Health Department, but in the evenings and on weekends, he changes hats, and takes on his self-appointed role of "maintenance manager."  This basically means doing whatever is needed to keep the shop running, such as purchasing supplies, flood cleanup, paying bills, and doing whatever he can to help.
