Technique Series: Seams to Me
with Julia Menkee
Noon - 2:00 pm
$15.00 or $50 for series of four classes
Ever wanted to learn how to sew on sheer fabrics such as voile or on heavier weight fabrics such as home decorator and denim or on fabrics that fray such as flannel? A flat-felled seam is a technique to create a stronger seam in heavy weight fabrics or to enclose the raw edges of seams to prevent raveling. A French seam is another technique to enclose a seam and is often used on sheer fabrics. Students will make a sample of each seam, learn uses for each seam, the correct needle for sewing on different weight fabrics and make a pillowcase using French seams.

Use one fabric, one shape, and make a one-of-a-kind quilt! One piece of fabric does all the work, creating kaleidoscope blocks from 60-degree triangles. This is a serendipitous approach to design and a forgiving sewing process. The first class session will cover the cutting and construction of the block, and the second will focus on quilt design and adding optional cubes.
